Things to watch in large implementation

Updated: Jun 25

This is what I learnt with the recent large project implementation

  1. The project/ agile team has to be adequately and correctly resourced.

    1. Software is made by humans! So if the humans are right then the output is right.

    2. The offboarding and onboarding has to be absolutely spot on i.e. fast and efficient. This is so that the non-performing members can be offboarded and new resources with different skills can be onboarded.

  2. Program health metrics might have to be customized for different teams but still aligned with the overall project. In addition, they have to be appropriate for the stage of the project.

  3. Communication. A big learning point for me! Communication both downwards and upwards has to be regular and as frequent as it must be to register with the team.

  4. Post the implementation, the development team should not be stood down or reduced until the system stabilizes. If the UAT has been done well, then this could be anywhere between 3-5 months.
