When time stood still - when biting your tongue is important

Updated: May 5

In the last 10 years or so I realize that a lot of my things have been frozen in time while the rest of the world moved. This blog and probably a few others will be about things that seem to be frozen time, I did not realize, and what I learnt from them.

I am not sure at this time, how much I will reveal of my struggles from the past 10 years. They were not my but our struggles.

I hope the readers take 2 things away from the article. One - Life will often given lemons but sometimes you can still make lemonade out of it. Two - There is often something to cherish.

I want to start by narrating a recent incident. I want to start with this coz I thought I had touched a raw nerve, that I had been too direct or too insensitive.

There used to be this lovely family - husband, wife & a son who all played squash together. The way they interacted with each other, the friendly banter, teasing each other made me feel that they were all very close to each other that they shared very friendly relationship.

The husband and the wife seem to be perfect each other. Not like one seemed to good for the other :) Hey! there are quite a few couples where you can see either the husband or the wife was too good for the other one but somehow they had fallen in love with each other.

Anyways, recently I met the wife as she was playing squash. I had seen her play before actually. But I always was either preoccupied mentally or was going somewhere or coming from somewhere so I never stood and spoke to her. This day, I asked that I had not seen her husband for a while.

The answer which came after a 1 sec gap gave me a heart attack and then the answer blew my mind away. She said they had divorced 10 years ago!

Time had stood still at least for me about them. The world had moved on but I had not.

It taught me 2 things - one, when asking personal questions to be even more careful. You never know how the world has changed. Two, to never take personal relationships for granted whatever they may be - husband-wife, friends, team mates.
